Website with a custom-built CMS

The site matched their main website in design whilst tapping into the back office system data. It provided the core features for job searching, tailored for a mobile phone user.

The mobile site was a success. A few months later, we worked on their main website. It was not a root and branch redesign – they were keeping the front end design and the database supplying their operations. Rather, the pain point was staff being able to manage data and content without having to pay their web provider each time.

We brought the website content under staff control with a CMS custom-built in Umbraco. Because Umbraco is open source, we could adapt the admin site with custom applications to give PRS just what they wanted, without disturbing the back-end data or front-end design.

A growing partnership

At this point, the working relationship began to grow. PRS did not need the overheads of an in-house IT or web team. But neither did they need distant third parties who would do single projects without appreciating how all their systems worked together – and how they could be improved.

Fluent started to spot potential improvements and solutions to upcoming problems that a project-focused agency would not care about. At the same time, we started to knit their systems together with the various applications they use to help job-seekers find jobs, and businesses hire the right candidates.

We integrated a front-page advert with a job-feed. We built an API for their database, integrating the data it exposed with third-party apps. We automated parts of the recruitment workflow and created automatic reports for their staff.

Websites need to change and evolve to stay relevant and useful

In 2017, on the back of a content audit and strategic recommendations, we built a brand new site that focused on the needs of its primary audience: job seekers. Content that did not serve this group was cut or relegated and involved some brave decision-making on Pure’s part.

In terms of functionality, job-seekers can search, browse and filter results across a range of different criteria, such as salary or job type. They can even use their own keywords to see a dropdown list of any roles that match - or part match - what they’re searching for.

We used the same software used by Facebook (React) to load pages with lightning speed. And to help make the process even quicker, job-hunters can create a shortlist of favourites and apply for them all at the same time.
